The Sons of AMVETS is a subordinate organization of AMVETS, and was nationally chartered in 1983. The role of the Sons is to support and assist the parent organization in various projects that benefit the local Post and in the community in general.

Membership in the Sons of AMVETS is available to sons, grandsons, adopted sons, stepsons, fathers, grandfathers, husbands and brothers of members of AMVETS, or of servicepersonnel who died but would have been eligible for membership in AMVETS. Prospective members must be at least 18 years of age and not eligible for membership in AMVETS.

The membership fee is $35 per year. Squadron 2 at the Robert W Boyd AMVETS Post in Yarmouth is a very active Sons
group, and works closely with the AMVETS and Auxiliary in co-sponsoring events such as dinners, pool tournaments, cribbage tournaments, cornhole and horseshoes, as well as various community endeavors. Squadron 2 currently has 115 members, including 15 life members.
